In a second high heel sweep in as many months , operatives of the Commissioner of Police CP-Special Assignment Team of the Delta State Police Command have neutralized five suspected kidnappers led by one Bello Abubakar.
The suspects had allegedly been terrorizing Ubulu-Uku, Issele-Uku, Issele-Asagba and environs.
The first sweep was in the Ogwashi-Uku axis of the state where several suspects were equally annihilated, after insecurity choked the area and residents called for decisive security action.
Breaking news of the new operation in Asaba, the spokesman of the command, said that,
acting on intelligence, the operatives stormed one of the suspects’ hideouts in Agu-Amawbia forest, Anambra State, where they allegedly recovered one Ak-47 rifle, one hundred and thirty-two (132) rounds of live ammunition.
According to the spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, investigation was later extended to another of the suspected criminals’ hideout in a forest between Issele-Asagba and Otulu, where the said Bello Abubakar and his gang members were reportedly mounting an ambush for the cops.
Edafe clammed that, ” on sighting the policemen, the suspected kidnappers attacked them in a fierce gun battle but the operatives, who were aware of the battle ahead, reciprocated in like manner. ”
The statement added that the suspects could not withstand the firepower of the operatives, as they ran in different directions with various degrees of bullet injuries.
He added that “five of the suspects, including the said Bello Abubakar, who could not escape due to the severity of their injuries, were taken to the hospital where they were confirmed dead. ”
According to him, “Two additional AK-47 rifles and eighteen (18) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered in the forest, while a manhunt for other injured fleeing suspects is ongoing.”
