PDP CRISIS: GOVERNORS IN THE LAST MINUTE EFFORT TO HALT EXODUS
Beleaguered Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors will tomorrow; Monday meet in Ibadan , the Oyo state capital to discuss how to salvage the declining fortune of the once dominant party ahead of 2027.
Enugu , Bayelsa, Delta, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Plateau and River states governors are expected at the parley .
Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde will provide the platform for the conversation.
Top on the agenda according to inside sources is the issue of the national secretary.
After the last supreme court judgement which asked the party to resolve the matter as its internal affairs both Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude Okoye claims to be the authentic occupier of the seat as the party Chief scribe .
The PDP has since the primary election that produced former Vice president Atiku Abubakar as its 2023 presidential candidate been under serious internal crisis leading to the continued exodus of its members.
The leadership of the party headed by the acting national chairman Ambassador Umar Damagun has been called to question severally since former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu gave way on account of irreconcilable differences with many members.
Damagun was expected to revert to his position as Deputy National Chairman (North) but has remained sit-tight as acting national chairman.
A good number of members also accused Ayu and Atiku for ruining the chances of the party because of their ” high handedness and arrogance”.
A communique is expected to be issued on the way out of the quagmire in the PDP.
