The much-anticipated meeting between the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Rivers State and the Sole Administrator of the State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, is finally taking place today, Friday, April 25, 2025, after multiple delays.
The House is exercising its constitutional authority to take over the duties of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Ibas, who had previously missed the meeting, apologized for his absence and requested additional time to prepare for his briefing. He explained that he was still settling into his new role and asked for the committee’s understanding.
After his request, journalists were asked to leave, and the meeting moved into a closed-door session.
The meeting had been postponed last week following a formal request from Ibas. At the time, Ibas was attending the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This marked his first appearance at the NEC since his appointment as Sole Administrator of Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in March 2025.
