A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Governorship Aspirant, Rt Hon Engr Victor Ochei, has hailed the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other stakeholders, including former Governor lfeanyi Okowa to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the beginning of a new dawn for the state.
Ochei, the immediate past Director of Maritime Labour and Cabbotage Services at the Nigeria Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA), equally said that the singular act of courage and foresight represents inherent in the defections represented more than a change of party, but a strategic alignment with the government at the centre.
The former Speaker, in a congratulatory message to Governor Oborevwori, on his verified Facebook page, said the landmark decision was a masterstroke that places Delta firmly on the path of accelerated development, enhanced collaboration, and expanded access to the dividends of democracy.
He said as a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, and stakeholder in the progress of the state, he was deeply encouraged by the momentous step, which, he said, demonstrated the Governor’s desire to riding above partisanship in favour of what really matters- “the prosperity of our people, the unity of our state, and the future of our children”.
Describing the latest development not only as a victory for every Deltan, but also non- indigenes alike, Ochei stressed that the synergy that now exists between the state and federal governments, going forward, will be a gateway to increased infrastructural development, job creation, youth empowerment, and a stronger voice for the state , in national discourse .
Said the former Speaker: “your entry into the APC will ensure that our state benefits tremendously from the Renewed Hope Agenda of our leader and President, ASIWAJU Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has continued to sustain the transformation of our economy into a resilient and more productive one, for the betterment of all Nigerians”
Rt Hon Ochei pledged his unwavering support, along with other progressives who believe in building bridges, rather than walls, to Governor Oborevwori and the entire structure he is leading into the APC.
Said Ochei: “Together, we shall work to consolidate this momentum, and build a Delta State that is not only united, but strategically positioned to benefit immensely, from its new alignment with the federal government.
