Vincent Temitope, a striker for Plateau United, was stabbed in the neck by an angry fan following his team’s 3-2 defeat to Nasarawa United at Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.
According to the club’s media director, Yaksat Maklek, Temitope—who scored one of Plateau United’s goals—was approached by fans pretending to take pictures. One of them suddenly attacked him with a knife, striking him in the neck.
Temitope was rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, where he is now in stable condition after receiving treatment.
Maklek confirmed that the club has gathered evidence and will report the incident to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for proper action.
Temitope who joined Plateau United last year is a key player of the club. He was recently named in the Super Eagles B training squad for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).
