The Nigerian Presidency has distanced itself from billboards and campaign materials promoting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, the government called for an immediate halt to these unauthorized promotions, emphasizing that such actions violate electoral laws and risk undermining the integrity of the democratic process.
The statement expressed concern over the growing number of these billboards, particularly in Abuja and Kano, some of which feature images of President Tinubu and his wife. While acknowledging the enthusiasm of supporters, the Presidency clarified that no campaign has been approved and that both Tinubu and Shettima remain focused on their governance agenda.
The Presidency urged citizens to await the official timetable from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and stressed that any future campaign plans will be communicated lawfully and transparently.
