Mathematical Segun Odegbami team mate and compatriot to former Green Eagles captain Christian Chukwu said he has lost a soul mate in the latter.
Reacting to the transition to the great beyond of Chukwu, Odegbami described Chukwu as an uncommon patriot who gave his all for the development of Nigeria through sports.
He recalled Chukwu’s accomplishments when he led Nigeria to its first ever African Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory in 1980, saying Chukwu was a great man.
Odegbami said the nation has lost one its pillars of football pointing out that Chukwu took Nigeria soccer to global reckoning.
An emotion ladden Odegbami stated:
“I just received the news that between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, my bosom friend and team mate, one of the greatest football players in Nigeria’s football history, former captain and coach of Nigeria’s National Football Team, has passed on.
“Babuje, Emmanuel Okala, MON, gave me the sad news a few minutes ago!
“May ‘Onyim’ find peace with Our Creator in Heaven, and console his family.
Ends.
