Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Friday led a delegation of prominent political figures—primarily from opposition parties—on a surprise visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State.
The visit, which was captured in a video shared by Atiku on social media, has stirred widespread speculation and debate online, with many Nigerians questioning the motive behind the high-profile meeting.
Among those accompanying Atiku were former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and other notable political actors. The gathering appeared cordial and informal, with Atiku noting that Buhari was “jocular in his usual manner” during the interaction.
A moment in the footage that drew particular attention showed El-Rufai kneeling to greet Buhari, while others took turns exchanging handshakes with the former President.
The video has since gone viral, fueling conversations across social media platforms. While some Nigerians expressed support and curiosity about the alliance, others criticized what they saw as an obsessive political maneuvering against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The motive behind the visit remains unclear, as neither Atiku nor Buhari has provided further details about the meeting’s agenda.
