Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered an investigation into shocking allegations that officers at the Ekpan Division repurposed a stolen vehicle as a patrol car.
The directive follows a viral social media post by a concerned citizen, @ChuksEricE on X (formerly Twitter), who shared the story of the vehicle’s owner, Ogoro Miffy. In a trending video, Miffy revealed that his car was stolen during a church program in 2015. After reporting the theft at the Ekpan Police Division, he was instructed to print and distribute flyers about the missing vehicle.
To his disbelief, Miffy said he spotted his stolen car in 2017 being used as a police patrol vehicle by the same division. He took legal action, and on July 19, 2018, the court ruled in his favor, ordering the police to pay him ₦10 million in damages. The police, however, appealed the decision.
In an emotional plea, Miffy stated: “Is it their right to use my motor? I don’t have a helper. They are oppressing me. That vehicle was my livelihood.” He appealed to popular activist VeryDarkMan for support.
In response, Police PRO SP Bright Edafe confirmed that CP Abaniwonda had ordered a full investigation, stressing that injustice of any kind would not be tolerated—regardless of when the incident occurred.
“This matter may have happened years ago, and some of those involved may be retired, but injustice is injustice,” Edafe stated. “The Commissioner has made it clear that the case must be looked into thoroughly.”
