National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu has frowned against the payment of ransoms to kidnappers, describing this as “security threat.”
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday when 62 kidnap victims rescued by the Nigerian Military were brought to his office, Ribadu said Nigerian forces were capable of meeting the challenges of kidnapping and banditry.
“It’s understandable that families of kidnap victims would do anything to ensure the release of their loved ones but we must stop giving these criminals money. These ransoms aid their crime and we must not continue with this.
“The safety of Nigerians is our priority and we are not resting to ensure this,” Ribadu said.
This is against the backdrop of increased criminality and kidnapping in many parts of the country, a situation that has led to widespread apprehension.
