Supreme Court Declares Anyanwu PDP National Secretary
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has made a landmark decision, declaring Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
This ruling brings an end to the intense battle between Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye for the position, which had caused significant divisions within the party.
The dispute began when Anyanwu left his position to contest the Imo governorship election, which he lost. Upon his return, he sought to reclaim his seat as the secretary, sparking a crisis within the party.
The Appeal Court in Enugu had previously upheld the removal of Anyanwu by a Federal High Court and affirmed Ude-Okoye as the authentic secretary.
However, the Supreme Court has now overturned this decision, stating that matters related to the leadership or membership of a political party are internal affairs and should not be subject to judicial intervention.
The court emphasized that exceptional circumstances, such as a constitutional provision or the commission of a crime, would be required for the court to intervene in such matters
With this ruling, Anyanwu has been confirmed as the National Secretary of the PDP, bringing a measure of stability to the party.
