The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria ( CBCN) rose from its first 2025 plenary meeting in Abuja with a charge on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to find solution to the lingering economic hardship ravaging the country.
The CBCN in its seven points communique after its meeting urged Mr. President to address the issues affecting the citizens .
The communique was signed by CBCN President and Archbishop of Owerri Diocese Lucius Iwejuru and Secretary Donatus A. Ogun who is the Bishop of Uromi Diocese.
According to the Bishops, the government seems to be doing something but “our nation still has some serious challenges bordering on harsh socio- economic situation, persistent insecurity, rising youth unemployment and restiveness”.
They also decried the high cost of essential goods, including food.
The clergy bemoaned the unabating cases of kidnapping and the mindless killing of innocent people.
They reminded Mr. President of his constitutional responsibilities to uphold the sanctity of the constitution to guarantee the welfare and security of the citizens.
