The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kiagama has counselled Christians and Muslims to shun religious rivalry but rather pursue the cause for justice and tackle national challenges.
Bishop Kiagama told a crowded gathering at the first 2025 Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Abuja that the ongoing Lenten season and Ramadan fasting calls for mutual respect and collaboration to tackle the socio-economic and political challenges facing the nation.
According to Kiagama ” religious observances such as Lent and Ramadan should ordinarily translate to acts of kindness, love, fairness and justices for all”.
He said the ongoing fasting and prayer would only be meaningful if it is targeted towards correcting the ills in the society and helping the less privileged.
He described as unhealthy religious superiority in Nigeria saying “it is time to pull together to address common problems facing mankind.”
True faith and worship Kiagama stated is anchored on love for one another, honesty, fairness and justice for all.
He however urged leaders at all levels to make the welfare and security of the citizens the cornerstone of their administrations.
